Troubleshooting

checking pool filters

  • No water movement in pool, filter pressure normal to high
  • No water movement in pool, filter pressure low or none
  • Pump will not prime or loses prime (pump pot will not fill completely with water)
  • Pump motor loud and/or noisy
  • Leak at pump
  • Leak at filter
  • D.E. going back into pool
  • D.E. goes back into pool with system off
  • Water leaking out backwash line
  • Spa loses water when system is on
  • Spa loses water when system is off
  • Spa drains/overflows when pool is in normal mode
  • Spa drains/overflows when pool is in spa mode
  • Pool cleaner sluggish or not moving
  • Pool cleaner not working correctly
  • Motor won’t turn on
  • Motor hums but will not start
  • Motor stopped while running switch is on
  • Backwash lever difficult to move
  • Heater will not come on when pump is running
  • Pool light is not working

No water movement in pool, filter pressure normal to high

1. Pressure side of plumbing closed. Check valves for proper settings.
2. Filter needs backwashing. Backwash filter.
3. Internal damage to filter. Call for service.

No water movement in pool, filter pressure low or none

1. Pump and/or skimmer basket full of debris. Empty baskets
2. Water level in pool too low. Add water.
3. Weir blade in skimmer stuck in up position. Replace weir.
4. Air leak on suction side of pump. Call for service.

Pump will not prime or loses prime (pump pot will not fill completely with water)

1. Pump impeller clogged. Call for service.
2. Water level too low. Add water.
3. Air leak at pump lid o-ring. Remove and clean o-ring. Reseat o-ring and secure pump lid.
4. Air leak at suction side of pump. Call for service.

Pump motor loud and/or noisy

1. Pump impeller clogged. Call for service.
2. Pressure side of plumbing closed. Check valves for proper settings.
3. Bearings in motor going out. Call for service.

Leak at pump

1. Mechanical seal on pump or seal plate o-ring leaking. Call for service.
2. Air leak at pump lid o-ring. Remove and clean o-ring. Reseat o-ring and secure pump lid.
3. Leak at plumbing. Call for service.

Leak at filter

1. Air relief valve needs to be tightened or replaced.
2. Filter tank o-ring damaged. Call for service.
3. Plumbing leak. Call for service.

D.E. going back into pool

1. Filter needs to be backwashed.
2. Broken or missing o-ring on backwash valve. Call for service.
3. Internal damage to filter. Call for service.

D.E. goes back into pool with system off

1. Leak at suction side of pump.
2. Water level too low.
3. Skimmer weir stuck.
4. Leak at pump hair and lint lid. Remove, clean o-ring, lid o-ring seat and pump o-ring seat. Reseal pump lid.
5. Bleed air off filter after backwashing.
6. Ripped or torn grid.

Water leaking out backwash line

1. Broken or missing o-ring on backwash valve. Call for service.
2. Internal damage to backwash valve diverter. Call for service.

Spa loses water when system is on

1. Valves set incorrectly. Return to normal position.
2. One or both valve actuator motors bad. Call for service.

Spa loses water when system is off

1. Check valve on spa fountain line not closing. Call for service.
2. Suction valve set incorrectly. Return to normal position.

Spa drains/overflows when pool is in normal mode

1. Check spa control valves for proper settings.
2. Spa control valves defective. Call for repair.

Spa drains/overflows when pool is in spa mode

1. Check spa control valves for proper settings.
2. Spa control valves defective. Call for repair.

Pool cleaner sluggish or not moving

1. Pump and/or skimmer basket full of debris. Empty baskets.
2. Filter needs backwashing. Backwash filter.
3. Debris screen in wall fitting clogged. Remove wall fitting, clear screen and replace.
4. Unit’s back up valve stuck open. Call for service.

Pool cleaner not working correctly

1. Water temperature too cold, hose stiff.
2. Length of hose incorrect. See owner’s manual.
3. Hose swivel broken or not moving.

Motor won’t turn on

1. Circuit breaker tripped. Check and reset.
2. Motor ceased. Call for service.
3. Power relay in Jandy system bad. Call for service.

Motor hums but will not start

1. Dirty starter contacts.
2. Starting capacitor bad.
3. Starter winding burned out.
4. Plugged impeller.
5. Call for service on 1 thru 4 above.

Motor stopped while running switch is on

1. Circuit breaker tripped. Check and reset.
2. Motor burned out. Call for service.
3. Debris around motor air vents and restricting air flow to the motor, causing the internal thermal
4. Overload switch to trip. Turn off the motor, remove debris and turn back on.

Backwash lever difficult to move

1. Backwash o-rings need lubrication.
2. Backwash o-rings need replacing.

Heater will not come on when pump is running

1. Check heater on/off switch.
2. Check heater thermostat.
3. Check system pressure. Backwash if high.
4. Is filter system on and running?
5. If the above 4 items are ok, call for service.

Pool light is not working

1. Check your circuit breaker and reset if necessary.
2. Check your G.F.C.I. (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) and reset if necessary.
3. If your pool light is tied into Jandy computer system, power relay bad. Call for service.
